A List 4/4/05 JAZZ IMPROV ENSEMBLE PLANS CONCERT AT SLU CANTON – A jazz improvisation ensemble at St. Lawrence University will perform in concert on Wednesday, April 13, at 8 p.m. in The Underground, Noble Center. The performance is open to the public, free of charge. The ensemble is the spring semester special productions ensemble; each semester, the music department sponsors an ensemble that concentrates on a different style or genre of music. This ensemble, directed by Jeffrey Campbell Graduate Fellow in Music Timothy Mangin, is made up of 12 undergraduate instrumentalists and vocalists. Throughout the semester, they have worked on building a jazz vocabulary for improvisation. In the concert, they will perform works by Charlie Parker, Wayne Shorter, John Coltrane, Herbie Hancock and Miles Davis, and cover tunes made famous by Nancy Wilson, Aretha Franklin, Bessie Smith and Dinah Washington. -30- Back To News Releases Back to St. Lawrence Homepage
