New Java House & Radio Station Space To Be Dedicated At St. Lawrence
CANTON - A dedication ceremony for new space at St. Lawrence University for Java House performances and student-run KSLU radio station will be held on Thursday, October 21, at 5:30 p.m. A free concert in the space by the MacPodz will take place beginning at 9 p.m.
Closer to the center of campus, the new Java/KSLU space is located near Brown Hall. Parking is in J Lot, across Park Street from the athletics facilities. Facilities for Java include about 2,800 square feet, with KSLU facilities occupying about 840 square feet in the new space.
Java and KSLU have provided performance and broadcast experience for generations of St. Lawrence students and the renovation of this space as their new locations was made possible through the support of alumni, parents and friends of the University:
- The Green Room was made possible by members of the Burr and Potter families, including Frank and Grace Burr; Andrew '97 and Ashley Burr; Matt Burr '03, drummer in the band Grace Potter and the Nocturnals, which formed on campus and performed in an earlier incarnation of Java; Sparky '70 and Peggy Sparks Potter '73; and Grace Potter '06.
- KSLU studio was made possible through the support of friends of KSLU from the Class of 1981.
- A plaque outside the Sound Room recognizes the financial support of the Heimbold Foundation, as well as professional advice of Katie Conboy Heimbold '97 and Pete Heimbold, who performs as Pete Francis.
The Macpodz are a guitar-less five-piece band, who offer up a grab-bag of musical styles, from jazz to rootsy jam-band-style grooves.
