ST. LAWRENCE OFFERS MUSIC AND DANCE OF KENYA

CANTON - The music and dance of Kenya will be performed by Jabali
Afrika on Wednesday, March 3, at 7:30 p.m. in the Gulick Theatre at
St. Lawrence University. Following the performance, the audience is
invited to stay for a workshop on Kenyan music.
Both events are open to the public, free of charge.
Jabali Afrika is a multi-faceted group with its own unique
mixture of fusion and African rhythms. Original compositions and
traditional African rhythms are performed on a wide variety of instruments,
accompanied by vocal harmonies that form the foundation of modern rock,
jazz, blues and other types of music. Talented dancing and choreography,
plus stunning traditional African costumes, complete the multi-cultural
experience of their performances.
"Jabali" is Kiswahili for "rock," and was chosen as the name for
the group, because the original members would meet on a large rock to
discuss their musical ambitions and plans for the future. They have toured
throughout Africa, Japan and Europe and are now on a tour of the United
States.
