St. Lawrence Hosts 'Invisible Children' Speakers & Documentary Sept. 13

CANTON - St. Lawrence University's Amnesty International chapter will host an event for the Invisible Children campaign, a non-profit organization that builds schools and homes for the "child soldiers" in Uganda and Sudan. Four speakers from the organization, including a former child soldier, will be present and a documentary about the issue will be screened.

The event, open to the public free of charge, is on Tuesday, September 13, at 7 p.m. in Gulick Theatre.

The documentary is Tony, which follows the story of a boy from northern Uganda, and his friendship with Invisible Children, Inc. founders Larren Poole, Bobby Bailey and Jason Russel. Spanning seven years, the film documents the organization's founders' 2003 trip to Uganda as filmmakers through 2010, and its launch of the Legacy Tour. The film also shows how the organization began the Legacy Scholarship Program and their involvement in lobbying for legislation in the United States Congress. Along with the story of Invisible Children, Inc. and Tony, the film exposes the abduction of children by the Lord's Resistance Army (LRA) in Uganda, a rebel army lead by Joseph Kony.
