Festivities will include traditional Indian food and music; students who share interests in Indian culture and tradition will provide perspectives on Divali. St. Lawrence Associate Dean for International and Intercultural Studies Patricia Alden notes, "The events of September 11 and following have brought home to the global community the need for extending mutual understanding and deepening tolerance to the end of reducing conflict. International Education Week provides an occasion to celebrate the contributions that universities like St. Lawrence make to this work." St. Lawrence offers opportunities to study in 13 countries, and approximately 40 percent of all students spend a semester or more studying abroad. In addition, the University welcomes international students (84 during the current semester) to its community. Most departments offer courses which have an international dimension, and area studies programs allow students and faculty to deepen their knowledge of particular regions, including Africa, Asia, Canada, the Caribbean and Latin America, and Europe. The new major and program in global studies further extends the curriculum.-30- Back To News Releases Back to St. Lawrence Homepage
