Fordham-Hernandez Selected Top Prof By SLU Seniors
St. Lawrence University Assistant Professor of Performance and Communication Arts Traci A. Fordham-Hernandez is the recipient of the 2008 Owen D. Young Outstanding Faculty Award, as voted by members of the senior class. The award is the only one given to faculty that is chosen by students.

Newsman Tom Brokaw Speaks To Packed House At St. Lawrence
St. Lawrence University's Contemporary Issues Forum presented a talk by NBC News Special Correspondent Tom Brokaw on Wednesday, April 30, in Gulick Theatre. The talk, called "Life Is Not Virtual," filled the 500-seat venue with students, faculty, staff and community members.

St. Lawrence Security & Safey Adds ATV To Fleet
An all-terrain vehicle (ATV) has been added to the fleet of the St. Lawrence University security and safety department, allowing officers to reach wooded areas of the 1,000-acre campus more efficiently.

SLU's Brush Gallery Exhibits Prints, Drawings By Senior Alexa Unser
"Perched On a Thread Around a Spool," an exhibition of prints and drawings by Alexa A. Unser '08, will be in the Richard F. Brush Art Gallery at St. Lawrence University from April 17 through May 31. Unser will give a talk on the exhibition, which is her senior-year project, on Wednesday, April 23, at 5 p.m. in Room 123 of the Griffiths Art Center; the event, open to the public free of charge, will be followed by a reception in the gallery.

A. Barton Hepburn Professor of Economics Jeffrey T. Young has been named the Frank P. Piskor Faculty Lecturer at St. Lawrence University and will give a talk on campus next spring on the topic "Justice, Property and Markets: Economics as Moral Philosophy."

Students Walking 60 Miles In Fund-Raiser
Three members of the Class of 2011 will participate in a three-day event this summer in Chicago to help find a cure for breast cancer. Sarah Holden '11, Molly Wike '11 and Julia Logan '11 are planning to participate in the "Breast Cancer 3-Day," benefitting Susan G. Komen For the Cure, August 8 through 10. Their team is called SLU Ladies.

Prof. Pomponio Gives Invited Talk In Italy
Professor of Anthropology Alice Pomponio recently gave a talk, titled "Informazione in pericolo: Una lingua minacciata di morte nel Pacifico del Sud" (Information in Peril: An Endangered Language in the South Pacific)," to graduate students in the philosophy and social sciences department of the University of Siena, Italy. The talk was part of her Fulbright Foundation Senior Lectureship.

Students Awarded 'Projects For Peace' Grant
Two St. Lawrence University students have been awarded one of the "100 Projects for Peace" grants for 2008, in the second year of the program. Yuki Poudyal '09, of Nepal, and Nicole Szucs '10, of Bolivia, plan a project that aims to provide 20 to 30 young people living on the streets of Kathmandu with the opportunity to be more productive and help them reintegrate into society.
