St. Lawrence Hosting Undergraduate Mathematics Conference
CANTON - St. Lawrence University is hosting this year's Hudson River
Undergraduate Mathematics Conference on campus April 19. The conference
is held annually, and attended by faculty and students from nearly 100
colleges, universities and community colleges throughout New York and New England.
The goal of the conference is to provide undergraduates with the experience of
attending and/or presenting at a professional mathematics meeting designed
primarily with the student in mind. Twenty-one students from St. Lawrence
are among those scheduled to give presentations.
The Mathematical Association of America awarded St. Lawrence's department
of mathematics, computer science and statistics a grant of $4,500 to help
support hosting the conference, with additional funding provided by the
Paul and Kay Taheri Mathematics Fund, created in honor of St. Lawrence
University Professor of Mathematics Dante Giarrusso.
