SLU HOSTS PATRICIA HAMPL IN WRITERS SERIES

CANTON – Czech writer Patricia Hampl, author of poetry, fiction, memoirs, 
reviews, essays and travel pieces, will speak and read from her work in an 
appearance at St. Lawrence University on Thursday, April 15, at 8 p.m. in 
Herring-Cole. The event, part of the St. Lawrence Writers Series, is open to 
the public, free of charge.
	Hampl is a Regents Professor at the University of Minnesota and the 
author of the memoirs A Romantic Education, Virgin Time and I Could Tell You 
Stories: Sojourns in the Land of Memory. All three were New York Times Notable 
Books of the Year, and I Could Tell You Stories was a National Book Critics 
Circle Awards Finalist. Other honors include MacArthur, Fulbright, Guggenheim, 
Bush and NEA fellowships. Hampl's writing has appeared in The New Yorker, 
Paris Review, New York Times Book Review, Ploughshares and Antaeus and Kenyon 
Review. Her latest book, The Silken Chamber, will be published this year by 
Beacon Press. She is also completing a collection of short stories, The Bill 
Collector's Vacation, for publication in 2005.
