MIND-BODY CONNECTION EXPLORED IN TALK AT SLU

CANTON -- Psychiatrist Carl Hammerschlag, a leading proponent of 
the "new science"  of psychoneuroimmunology (mind/body/spirit connection), 
will speak at St. Lawrence University on Wednesday, November 15, at 
8 p.m. in Hepburn Auditorium on the topic "Choice, Challenge and Change." 
The event is open to the public, free of charge.
	A Yale-trained psychiatrist, Hammerschlag has spent more than 
20 years working with Native Americans. For 14 of those years, he was 
chief of psychiatry at the Phoenix Indian Medical Center. Hammerschlag 
is a faculty member at the University of Arizona Medical School and an 
advisory board member to Shape magazine.
	Hammerschlag's work has been chronicled in three critically 
acclaimed books,  The Dancing Healers (1988), The Theft of the Spirit (1993) 
and Healing Ceremonies (1997), written with Howard Silverman.
