CD RELEASE PARTY AT SLU FOR STUDENT-LED BAND

CANTON – A CD release party will be held on Friday, April 30, at 8 p.m. in
the Laurentian Room of the Student Center at St. Lawrence University,
celebrating the release of Original Soul by Grace Potter and the Nocturnals,
a band consisting of University students and alumni. The event is open to
the public, free of charge.
Potter, a sophomore from Waitsfield, Vermont, is a pianist and vocalist
who has been actively pursuing song-writing and performance for the past two years.
With the Nocturnals (Matthew Burr '03 and Courtright Beard '07), she has performed
throughout New England, and recently toured Ireland. Scott Tournet, also of
Vermont, joined the band in December.
Original Soul is the group's official debut CD, recorded in Charlotte, Vermont,
in the studio of Charles Eller. Eller is the keyboardist in B.B. King's Unknown Blues
Band, and he has collaborated with musicians including Bonnie Raitt, Phish and
Paul Butterfield.
The band performs often on campus as well, most recently to celebrate the
grand opening of the Student Center. Their sound has been described as a blend of
jazz, blues, folk, funk and soul, and "a creative cross between Norah Jones and
[Bonnie] Raitt."
