Global Studies Professor Lectured in Chicago

Professor of Global Studies John Collins delivered a lecture at the University of Chicago titled "Defending the Milieu in Global Palestine."

In his lecture, Collins explores Palestine as a prophetic and microcosmic node within a larger global system. Paul Virilio’s concept of “war on the milieu,” when put in dialogue with key insights from the growing body of scholarship in comparative settler colonial studies, can help conceptualize the nature of this system as an ongoing struggle between the structures of permanent war and the local practices of popular defense and everyday occupation.

Collins' latest book, Global Palestine, available from Oxford University Press, uses the category of settler colonialism to explore the globalization of Palestine and the Palestinization of the globe.
