St. Lawrence Writers Series Hosts Novelist Gish Jen February 10
CANTON - Gish Jen, author of four novels and the story collection "Who's Irish?," will speak and read from recent work in an appearance at St. Lawrence University on Thursday, February 10, at 8 p.m. in the Common Room of Sykes Residence Hall. The event, part of the St. Lawrence Writers Series, is open to the public, free of charge.
Jen has received fellowships from the National Endowment for the Arts, the Guggenheim Foundation and the Radcliffe Institute for Advanced Studies, as well as a Lannan Literary Award and a grant from the American Academy of Arts and Letters. Her stories have appeared in The New Yorker, the Atlantic and The New Republic, and have been reprinted in numerous textbooks and anthologies, including The Best American Short Stories of the Century. Named one of the eight most important contemporary American women writers by critic Elaine Showalter, Jen is a member of the American Academy of Arts and Sciences.
