Gerald Early At St. Lawrence For Writers Series
CANTON - Essayist and American culture critic Gerald Early will speak at St. Lawrence University on Thursday, April 8, at 8 p.m. in the Common Room of Sykes Residence Hall. The event, part of the University's Writers Series, is open to the public, free of charge.
Early is the author of several nonfiction works, including The Culture of Bruising: Essays on Prizefighting, Literature, and Modern American Culture, which won the National Book Critics Circle Award for Criticism; One Nation Under a Groove: Motown and American Culture; and This is Where I Came In: Black America in the 1960s. He has also edited a number of books, including The Sammy Davis, Jr. Reader: The Life and Times of the Last Great American.
Early is the Kling Professor of Modern Letters and director of the Center for the Humanities at Washington University in St. Louis.
