'Ending The Fed' Topic For Lecture At St. Lawrence
CANTON - Economist George Selgin will give a talk titled "A Century of Failure: The Case for Ending the Fed" on Monday, September 27, at 7:30 p.m. in the auditorium of Hepburn Hall (Room 218) at St. Lawrence University. The event, part of both the Contemporary Issues Forum and the economics department Visiting Speaker Series in Political Economy, is open to the public, free of charge.
Selgin is a professor of economics in the Terry College of Business at the University of Georgia. He is the author of several books on monetary theory and history, including The Theory of Free Banking (1988), which provides a theoretical account of how a completely market-oriented banking system would work without a central bank, and Good Money (2008), a history of private coinage in Great Britain in the late 18th and early 19th century. Selgin has also published widely in professional journals including The Journal of Money, History of Political Economy and The Journal of Economic History.
Selgin's twin brother, Peter Selgin, is the Viebranz Visiting Writer at St. Lawrence this year.
The Contemporary Issues Forum brings experts and participants in the making of news to campus throughout the academic year.
