SLU Writers Series Begins Sept. 16, With George Saunders
CANTON - The St. Lawrence University Writers Series begins on Thursday, September 16, with an appearance by George Saunders, at 8 p.m. in the Common Room of Sykes Residence Hall. The event is open to the public, free of charge.
Saunders is the author of the short-story collections Pastoralia, CivilWarLand in Bad Decline (both New York Times Notable Books) and, most recently, In Persuasion Nation. He is also the author of the novella-length illustrated fable The Brief and Frightening Reign of Phil; the New York Times bestselling children's book The Very Persistent Gappers of Frip; and, most recently, a book of essays, The Braindead Megaphone. Saunders teaches in the creative writing program at Syracuse University.
The series will also include Peter Campion, October 28; Robert Finch, November 4; Dinty Moore, December 2; Gish Jen, February 10; Patricia Smith, March 10; Brock Clarke, April 7; and Viebranz Visiting Professor of Creative Writing Peter Selgin, April 28.
