ST. LAWRENCE SETS NEW FUND-RAISING RECORDS
CANTON - St. Lawrence University set a new gift income record in fiscal year
2006-2007 (ending June 30, 2007), with gift income totaling $ 22,897,142. The
total is a 1.5 percent increase from 2005-006, also a record-setting year.
The St. Lawrence Fund, which represents gifts from alumni, parents and friends
in support of the University's ongoing operations, also experienced a
record-setting year, surpassing $5 million for the first time ever.
Gifts to the St. Lawrence Fund totaled $5,061,869 from 9,708 alumni, parents
and friends, a 5 percent increase in the fund over last year's total amount.
Other highlights of the year include:
- The Parents Fund also set a record, surpassing $700,000 for the first
time ever, with a total of $708,748, an increase of 8.7 percent over the
previous year.
- The Alumni Fund exceeded its goal of $4,227,000, reaching $4,241,032
from 7,304 donors, a 4 percent increase from the amount raised last year.
- The half-way mark for the Momentum St. Lawrence campaign has also been
surpassed, with $105.5 million raised by the end of the fiscal year, including
seven new gift commitments of $1 million or more. Members of the Board of
Trustees surpassed their own goal of $50 million for Momentum St. Lawrence,
with commitments from the 53 current and emeritus trustees. Momentum St. Lawrence,
announced publicly October 13, 2006, is a campaign to raise $200 million by
December 31, 2010.
- The Friends Fund totaled $112,089, up 20 percent from the year before, with a
15 percent increase in donors, to 742. This mainly comes from support of faculty
and administrative staff to Momentum St. Lawrence, with 57 percent having
committed to the campaign to date.
- St. Lawrence successfully met and surpassed the Kresge Foundation
Challenge, raising over $4.5 million from 699 donors in order to be
awarded a $1 million grant from the Kresge Foundation. The challenge,
to raise $4.1 million in new gifts and pledges by April 1, 2007, supports
the Johnson Hall of Science.
In addition to private support, the University also received over $5.3 million
in state and federal grants during 2006-2007, including $4.5 million from the
New York State GeNYsis Project for the Johnson Hall of Science, bringing
the total for gifts and grants from external sources to more than $28 million.
President Daniel F. Sullivan said, "With the help of our generous donors,
together we have returned St. Lawrence to the ranks of the best liberal arts
colleges in America. We are blessed to have alumni, parents and friends with
both the resources and the will to help improve the University every year
through their gifts of talent and money. The past year was no exception,
and our fund-raising results reflect the incredible momentum we all feel
the University has. I am deeply grateful for their extraordinary
generosity and commitment."
"There is a new buzz about St. Lawrence, felt both on and off campus,"
Vice President for Advancement Michael P. Archibald said, "as a 'place to be'
among colleges and universities. Our fund-raising accomplishments in 2006-07
reflect the increased support of and demand for the University felt by
students, parents and alumni. I am especially pleased that these gifts
have made it possible for us to broaden our commitment to students from
the North Country through financial aid and scholarships. We are proud to
continue our tradition as the university of opportunity for many of our
region's most promising young men and women."
