A List 10/27/03 HUMAN-RIGHTS ACTIVIST TO SPEAK AT SLU ABOUT FREE TRADE CANTON – Xiomara Castro, director of the California Human Rights Program for the organization Global Exchange, will give a talk on the Free Trade Area of the Americas (FTAA) on Wednesday, October 29, at 8 p.m. in Bloomer Auditorium, Brown Hall, at St. Lawrence University. It is open to the public, free of charge. A Salvadoran-American, Castro has been involved in the social change movement from a very young age, initially working to end U.S. military intervention in El Salvador, and later working for immigrant and farmworkers' rights in the U.S. Her current work focuses on issues of free trade, immigration, militarization and social and environmental justice. Castro's presentation at St. Lawrence will focus on how the FTAA will affect Latin American countries and their populations.
