SLU LIBRARY LECTURE FEATURES NORTH COUNTRY AUTHORS

CANTON - The annual Friends of Owen D. Young and Launders Libraries 
Commencement Lecture at St. Lawrence University will take place on 
Saturday, May 18, at 2 p.m. in Herring-Cole Hall on campus. It 
will feature the editors of the book Living North Country, 
Associate Professor of English Natalia R. Singer and University 
Editor Neal S. Burdick, and several of the authors who 
contributed to the book, reading their works.
	The event is open to the public, free of charge.
Authors who will read at the event are St. Lawrence Professor of 
English Peter Bailey, author of The Reluctant Film Art of Woody 
Allen; SUNY Potsdam Assistant Professor of Anthropology Karen 
Johnson-Weiner, author of articles on the Amish; Bill McKibben, 
author of The End of Nature, among other books, and this year's 
recipient of the North Country Citation from the University; and 
Peter Van de Water, former vice president for student affairs at 
St. Lawrence and the writer of a weekly column in The 
St. Lawrence Plaindealer.
	Published by North Country Books, Inc., of Utica, Living 
North Country includes more than two dozen essays, by established 
writers as well as newcomers, all of whom have ties to the local 
area.
