STEVE FORBES TO GIVE TALK AT ST. LAWRENCE

CANTON - Former U.S. presidential candidate Steve Forbes, president 
and CEO of Forbes, Inc. and editor-in-chief of 
Forbes magazine, will give the keynote 
speech of St. Lawrence University's Laurentian 
Leadership Weekend. Forbes' talk, "America's 
Promise for Hope, Growth and Opportunity," 
will be on Saturday, October 6, at 7:30 p.m. 
in Gunnison Memorial Chapel. Free tickets to 
the event are available in the Brewer Bookstore 
and E.J. Noble University Center main desk.
	Forbes' column, "Fact and Comment," 
appears in each issue of Forbes. He has 
won the prestigious Crystal Owl award four times, 
as the financial journalist whose economic 
forecasts proved most accurate. He withdrew from 
the race for president in February of 2000, but is credited with 
influencing the national debate, especially his advocacy of a 
flat income-tax rate. Forbes is also the author of A New Birth of 
Freedom, a book of ideas for the new millennium.
	Other highlights of the weekend include induction of alumni 
into the University's Athletic Hall of Fame; recognition of alumni 
Volunteers of the Year; and a variety of seminars, workshops and 
social events for returning graduates.
