St. Lawrence Contributes To Ladder Truck Purchase - St. Lawrence University has committed $100,000 to the Canton Fire Corporation, which will be used to assist the fire department in replacement of its ladder truck. The truck was purchased earlier this year for $685,000; the University recently issued the first of seven scheduled payments.

St. Lawrence Vice President for Administrative Operations Thomas Coakley, at left in photo, stated that St. Lawrence considers the payments (of $14,286 annually for seven years) to be a co-investment in capital, especially given that adequate fire protection of many University buildings require the use of a dependable ladder truck. The commitment, Coakley noted, is similar to the University's agreement to fund $288,000 towards the $1.9 million cost of the Canton fire station.

Accepting the payment from Coakley are, center, Mike Morgan, chair of the Ladder Truck Committee and past Canton Fire Chief, and Michael Dalton, Canton Fire Chief.
