Talk At St. Lawrence Explains Marcellus Shale
CANTON - Sedimentary geologist Chuck Ver Straeten, of the New York State Museum, will give a talk called "The Geological Story of the Marcellus 'Shale'" on Thursday, April 21, at 7:30 p.m. in Bloomer Auditorium, Brown Hall, at St. Lawrence University. The Susan Caroline Ferguson Lecture in Geology, it is open to the public, free of charge.
Ver Straeten will discuss what is the geological history of these rocks, including the 390-million-year-old seaway where Marcellus rocks formed; who lived there at the time; and the mountains in New England that Marcellus mud and sands came from.
