Music By Women Highlighted In SLU Concert

CANTON - "Femme Fatale," music by women, is the theme for a concert by the Rhythm & Roots ensemble at St. Lawrence University, on Thursday, April 19, at 8 p.m. in The Underground, Noble Center room 001. The event is open to the public, free of charge.

While familiar songs from the past - "I Met Him on a Sunday" by the Shirelles and Jefferson Airplane's "Somebody To Love" - are included, the concert mostly features music by more contemporary artists who do not get much mainstream attention, such as Feist, Florence and the Machine and Ani DiFranco.

Most (not all) of the performers for the concert at St. Lawrence women students.

The Rhythm & Roots ensemble explores a different style, genre or type of American roots music each spring. Past explorations have included soul/funk, jug band and country. Associate Professor of Music Michael Farley is the ensemble's director and senior Jordan Pescrillo, of Buffalo, is the assistant director.
