SLU'S 'POETRY FOR PEACE' EVENT HAS NORTH COUNTRY FOCUS
CANTON - The February edition of St. Lawrence University's Poetry for Peace event will
be a special reading, dedicated to North Country poets. It will be on Wednesday,
February 7, from 4:30 to 5:30 p.m. in the Winston Room of the Student Center and
it is open to the public, free of charge.
Poetry for Peace is a monthly event in which members of the campus community
are invited to share readings of poetry, in many languages, all on the subject
of peace and justice. Recently the University began "podcasting" the events
through its Web site.
The program for the February event includes the following readers and works:
Michael Barrett, "A Pilgrim's Tale"; Peter Bailey, "The Oven Bird," by Robert
Frost and "A Rabbit as King of the Ghosts," by Wallace Stevens; John Berbrich,
"To the twins"; Robert DeGraaff, "Blythe Spirit"; Jake Dillon, "Heroes"; Paul
Doty, "Memory Brooms" and "Vision of Judgment," by Lord Byron; Joseph Duemer,
"Debriefing" and "i sing of olaf glad & big," by ee cummings; Sarah Gates,
"Houses"; Albert Glover, "White Phosphorous," by Alice Notley; Duriel E. Harris,
"Meditations"; Dale Hobson, "Million Buddhas"; Oscar Sarmiento, "Carta abierta
