SPORT PSYCHOLOGIST TO ADDRESS 'FEAR OF FAILURE' IN SLU TALK

CANTON - "Fear of Failure" is the topic of a talk to be given by 
David Conroy, assistant professor of kinesiology at The Pennsylvania 
State University, on Monday, October 21, at 4:15 p.m. in Bloomer 
Auditorium, Brown Hall, at St. Lawrence University. The talk is the 
Annual Psychology Colloquium, and is open to the public, free of charge.
	Conroy's expertise is in applied sport psychology, and he has 
consulted on performance enhancement issues with athletes in a variety 
of sports from recreational to elite levels. His research focus involves 
fear of failure and interpersonal influences on social/emotional 
aspects of human development in movement settings. Conroy is a member 
of the editorial board for the Journal of Applied Sport Psychology and 
has published articles in many of the peer-reviewed journals relevant 
to the field of sport psychology.
	Fear of failure is a common problem for students, as well as for 
educators, artists, business professionals and sport performers of 
all levels. In his talk, Conroy will review different theoretical 
perspectives on the fear of failure from the past, and a new model 
will be offered to integrate existing perspectives.
