MUSIC ENSEMBLES AT ST. LAWRENCE OPEN TO COMMUNITY
CANTON - Membership in several of St. Lawrence University's music ensembles
is open to the community.
The University Chorus, Canton's community chorus, has Tammy Madeja as guest
director for the fall semester. Rehearsals are Tuesdays from 7 to 9 p.m. in
Room 15 of the Griffiths Arts Center. This semester's concert, December 8, will
feature Christmas "new and old," with Daniel Pinkham's Christmas Cantata, a
variety of carols and other seasonal music. The University Chorus also sings in
the annual Candlelight Services in Gunnison Memorial Chapel, December 12. For

The Early Music Singers is a select chamber choir that specializes in
Medieval, Renaissance and Baroque a cappella music. Membership includes faculty,
staff, students and community members; sight-reading ability is required.
Rehearsals for the Early Music Singers are on Thursdays, from 7 to 9 p.m. in
Gunnison Memorial Chapel. The Singers will perform in the Candlelight Services
December 12, Spanish and Mexican Baroque pieces, and Bach's motet "Jesu, meine

The String Orchestra, a 35-member string orchestra directed by Chris Hosmer,
rehearses on Thursdays, from 7 to 9 p.m., in the Underground, Noble Center 001.
Concerts will be November 11 in Gunnison Memorial Chapel on campus and at the
Russell Opera House, on a date to be determined. Music this fall will be on the theme
"Viva Vivaldi," with selections from "The Seasons," "Gloria" and other

Concert Band, formerly the Wind Ensemble, will be directed by Glenn Roberts
and focus on traditional band repertoire in their concert "Winter Winds," on
December 9. Rehearsals are Tuesdays from 7 to 9 p.m. and Thursdays from
4 to 6 p.m. in the Underground, Noble Center 001. For membership information,
