A List 1/28/02 ONE-PERSON SHOW AT SLU SPOTLIGHTS U.S. DIVERSITY CANTON - Faces of America, a one-person play based on interviews and workshops conducted across the country, will be performed at St. Lawrence University on Tuesday, February 5, at 8 p.m. in Gulick Theatre. Following the free performance, a panel of students will respond with comments. Both events are open to the public, free of charge. Faces of America was created by Colin Cox and Fran de Leon, in response to demands for diversity workshops. Recognizing that their strengths lay in theatre, they began intensive research of young Americans. After interviewing over 60 people, they began to formulate the characters depicted in this extraordinarily truthful and sometimes shocking portrayal of American society. It is now in its sixth season of touring the country. At St. Lawrence, Faces of America will be performed by Vasna Bilavarn, a graduate of the University of Arizona's professional actors training program. Following the performance, students from the Louis Ray House of Brotherhood; An Hispanic Organization Raising Awareness (A.H.O.R.A.); the Women's Resource Center; the Native American Students Organization (N.A.S.O.); the Thelomathesian Society (student government); People Recognizing Individuality, Equality and the Diversity of Sexualities (P.R.I.D.E.S.) and the Black Women's Residence will respond to the performance and address issues that relate to St. Lawrence. The event is part of the semester-long Flippin' the Script: Recognizing Differences, Finding Commonalities, Negotiating Identities, Transforming Communities, a series of activities and events presented through the William and Flora Hewlett Foundation's Pluralism and Unity Project.-30- Back To News Releases Back to St. Lawrence Homepage
