NY TIMES CHIEF SPEECHWRITER TO GIVE TALK AT SLU

CANTON – Ethan Riegelhaupt, chief speechwriter for the New York
Times Company, will give a talk called "Controlling Your Narrative"
at St. Lawrence University on Friday, April 15, at 7:30 p.m. in
Herring-Cole. The event is open to the public, free of charge.
In the talk, Riegelhaupt will discuss how every person's life has
a narrative, dealing with the choices people make, the paths they
choose, the image they put forth, etc. A person's narrative would
include decisions about college, career and other matters, and how
sometimes it's necessary to change the story. Does your narrative
work? Do people understand your story?
Riegelhaupt was named chief speechwriter for The New York Times
Company in December 1999. He is responsible for drafting speeches for
senior executives for a wide variety of external and internal audiences.
Previously, he had been president of EMR & Associates, a media relations
and public affairs firm, since 1996. Riegelhaupt has also been chief
of policy for the office of the public advocate, Mark Green, New York
City; general counsel and corporate secretary to the New York Convention
Center Operating Corporation and Convention Center Development Corporation;
and a vice president at Robinson Lake Lerer & Montgomery. He also served
in the administrations of New York State governors Mario Cuomo and Hugh
Carey, holding a variety of positions. Riegelhaupt is a graduate of
Colgate University, with a law degree from Brooklyn Law School.
