ART SCHOLAR & CURATOR TO SPEAK AT SLU

CANTON -- Okwui Enwezor, adjunct curator of contemporary art 
at the Art Institute of Chicago, will speak at St. Lawrence 
University as part of the series on "African Arts: Into the 
Next Millennium."
	Enwezor's talk will be on Thursday, December 2, at 8 p.m. 
in Room 123 of the Griffiths Arts Center. It is open to the public, 
free of charge.
	An internationally recognized scholar and curator of 
contemporary African art, Enwezor is the founding editor of Nka: 
Journal of Contemporary African Art, co-published with the Africana 
Studies Center at Cornell University. In 1997, he served as the 
artistic director of "Africus: The Second Bienniale of Johannesburg," 
the most significant modern art event on the African continent.
	Enwezor has written and published extensively on contemporary 
African and international art. In Nka, he has published some of the most 
important new writing on African and African American artists and has 
introduced the work of leading young artists. 
	"African Arts: Into the Next Millennium" is a series exploring 
the explosion of creativity across Africa which has occurred during 
the past half-century, and examining what directions this momentum may 
take in the future.
