SLU MUSIC ENSEMBLES OPEN TO COMMUNITY

CANTON – Membership in several of St. Lawrence University's music ensembles are open to 
membership in the community. 
	Auditions for the University Chorus and Early Music Ensemble (Early Music Players and Early 
Music Singers) will be held Monday through Thursday, August 22 through 25, from 7 to 9 p.m. 
in Room 24 of the Griffiths Arts Center, and by appointment until Friday, September 2. For

	The University Chorus rehearsals are Tuesdays from 7 to 9 p.m. in Room 15 of the Griffiths 
Arts Center, beginning August 30. Fall concerts are Saturday, November 12, at 8 p.m. in 
Gunnison Memorial Chapel, and Sunday, November 13, at 2 p.m. in St. Mary's Cathedral, 
Ogdensburg. The program is entitled American Songs of Praise: Hymns, Shape Note Music and 
Spirituals. The University Chorus also sings in the annual Candlelight Service in Gunnison 
Memorial Chapel on Wednesday, December 7, at 7 and 9 p.m.
	Rehearsals for the Early Music Players are on Mondays from 7 to 9 p.m. in Room 15 of the 
Griffiths Arts Center, starting August 29. The Early Music Singers rehearse on Thursdays from 
7 to 9 p.m. in Gunnison Memorial Chapel, starting on September 1. The ensemble's concert is 
Sunday, December 11, at 2 p.m. in Gunnison Memorial Chapel, with music of the English 
Renaissance appropriate to the season.
	The String Orchestra rehearses on Thursdays, from 7 to 9 p.m., in Room 15 of the Griffiths 
Arts Center, beginning September 1. Auditions will be Monday and Tuesday, August 29 and 30, 
from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. in Gilbert Recital Hall. For information, contact Chris Hosmer, at

	New this semester are the Wind Ensemble and the Rhythm and Roots Ensemble, performing 
American popular music. 
	The Wind Ensemble rehearsals are Mondays and Wednesdays, 7 to 9 p.m., starting Monday, 
September 5. A program of British wind band classics and beyond is scheduled for Wednesday, 
November 30, at 8 p.m. in the Underground, Noble Center. Auditions will be held Monday and 
Wednesday, August 29 and 31, from 7 to 9 p.m. in the Underground; contact Tim Savage at

	The Rhythm and Roots Ensemble will rehearse Tuesdays and Thursdays from 7 to 9 p.m. the
