ITALIAN MUSIC FROM MIDDLE AGES PERFORMED BY SLU ENSEMBLE

CANTON - St. Lawrence University's Early Music Ensemble will
perform a concert of Musica Italia, Italian music from the
Middle Ages and Renaissance, on Sunday, May 4, at 4 p.m. in
Gunnison Memorial Chapel. The event is open to the public,
free of charge.
The concert is a tour in sound of the Italian peninsula,
from 14th-century Florence to 15th-century Rome to 16th-century
Venice, with stops in Mantua, Bologna and other destinations.
Works by Landini, DuFay, de Rore, Marenzio, Palestrina, Gabrieli
and others are included.
The Early Music Ensemble, directed by Barry Torres, is
a group of students, faculty and community members dedicated to
the performance of medieval, Renaissance and Baroque music. The
ensemble consists of two groups, the Early Music Players and the
Early Music Singers. The Players perform on both modern
instruments and replica period instruments from the University's
Romer Collection. The Singers is an ensemble of 12 vocalists
modeled after the chapel choirs of the Renaissance.
