EMBER SWIFT TO PERFORM AT ST. LAWRENCE

CANTON - Canadian musician Ember Swift will perform
at St. Lawrence University on Saturday, February 16, at
9 p.m. in Eben Holden, as part of the 2002 Festival of
the Arts, titled "Remapping the Goddess: Global Visions."
The concert is open to the public, free of charge.
Swift has been described as a "brilliant jazz
vocalist inhabiting the body of an alternative punk-folk
singer-songwriter." She is a self-taught guitarist and
percussionist, as well as a trained pianist. Her most
recent full-length release is the 2000 live album The Wage
Is The Stage.
The St. Lawrence University Festival of the Arts
is February 16 through March 7 and includes a variety of
performances, exhibitions, lectures, discussions and other
events, all exploring "the shifting representations and
cultic practices of female deities in their own locale and
in translation to other contexts."
