St. Lawrence Offering Majors Combining Economics & Foreign Languages
CANTON - Starting with the fall 2009 semester, St. Lawrence University will offer four new combined majors in economics and foreign languages. The new combined majors are offered in international economics/Spanish; international economics/German; international economics/French; and international economics/multi-language.
Building on two existing majors, economics and modern languages and literatures, the programs will provide students with enhanced opportunities to develop careers in the for-profit sector, especially in multi-national companies; the not-for-profit sector, in organizations such as the International Red Cross, the Peace Corps and those involved in public policy; and in government. The program leads to a bachelor of arts degree and is interdisciplinary, providing advanced skills in language, culture and literature and in-depth analysis of international economic policy. Study abroad is strongly recommended as an enhancement to the major.
Requirements include specialization in French, German or Spanish, or for the multi-language combined major, upper-level courses in one of those languages, plus courses in either Chinese or Japanese, and a series of courses in economics.
