AREA K-12 TEACHERS WELCOME AT SLU EAST ASIA CONFERENCE

CANTON – The St. Lawrence University Asian Studies Initiative, with funding 
from the Freeman Foundation, and in conjunction with St. Lawrence-Lewis 
BOCES, will hold a one-day East Asian Studies conference for local K-12 
teachers on Wednesday, June 30, from 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. in the Student 
Center on campus.
	The event will include seminars and workshops with artists, scholars, 
dance and martial arts specialists in Korean culture and society; history 
and geography of China; Japan and the modern world; Chinese landscape painting; 
calligraphy; and East Asian music and dance. The final event will be a 
public performance from 3 to 4 p.m., featuring Korean music and dance.
	Teachers participating in the conference will learn how to incorporate 
the topics covered into their own classes. Participants will receive stipends, 
as well as a voucher to purchase books, tapes and other teaching materials.
	Those interested in participating in the conference must register
