DEPARTING SLU STUDENTS DONATE TO KOSOVO REFUGEES

CANTON - Departing St. Lawrence University students who might
otherwise have thrown out clothing, small appliances and other
items from dormitory life rather than move them, have instead
donated the items to refugees from Kosovo who are in Canada.
Collection boxes were placed in residence halls as classes
ended, and students were encouraged to donate items rather than
discard them or leave them behind as they packed to leave campus
at the end of the academic year. As a result, some 40 large bags
of clothing, shoes, household items, sports equipment and food was
donated. Arrangements have been made for the items to go to the
Kingston, Ontario, Salvation Army, for distribution to Kosovo refugees
recently relocated to Canada.
While donations came mostly from students, faculty and staff
members also contributed items to the effort.
The project was coordinated on campus by Residential
Coordinator Margo-Lyn Grant and Laurie Booth-Trudo, associate director
of counseling services.
