A List 11/4/02 'REVISION' OF SHAKESPEARE IN PLAY AT SLU CANTON - Performances of the play Goodnight Desdemona (Good Morning Juliet) will be presented at St. Lawrence University November 6 through 9 at 8 p.m. each evening in Gulick Theatre. The presentation is open to the public, free of charge; tickets are available at the Gulick box office. Directed by Assistant Professor of Speech and Theatre Rhea Lehman and written by award-winning Canadian playwright Ann-Marie MacDonald, this joyous revision of Othello and Romeo and Juliet embraces a full measure of Shakespearean turns - swordplay, wordplay, dancing, cross-dressing, bawdiness and mistaken identities - in what reviewers have called both a "knee-slapping" and "intellectually ambitious" comedy. Goodnight Desdemona was originally commissioned and produced at the Nightwood Theatre, Toronto, in 1988, and has had over 50 productions in Canada, the U.S., and Great Britain. The play won the 1990 Governor General's Award for Drama and the Canadian Authors' Association Award. For more information, contact the speech and theatre department, 315-229-5192.
