MALONE NATIVE NAMED TRUSTEE AT ST. LAWRENCE
CANTON - Denise M. Durant, a 1997 graduate of St. Lawrence University, has been
elected a McCurdy-Sprague Trustee of the University. McCurdy-Sprague Trustees
must have graduated from St. Lawrence between two and 10 years prior to their
election, and serve four-year terms.
Durant is an orthopedic surgeon, specializing in hand surgery. She graduated
from the Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine in 2001 and completed her
internship and residency in Burlington, Vermont. Durant is completing a
fellowship year of training at the Mary S. Stern Hand and Upper Extremity
Surgery Center in Cincinnati, Ohio, after which she will join a practice
of orthopedic surgeons in Bennington, Vermont.
A native of Malone, Durant graduated from Salmon River Central School
in Fort Covington. She graduated from St. Lawrence with honors, earning
her degree in biology and psychology.
While an undergraduate, Durant
played soccer and basketball, earning Academic All-American and league
honors in soccer her senior year. She was elected to the biology and
psychology honorary societies, as well as the national academic honorary
society Phi Beta Kappa and the leadership honorary society Omicron Delta
Kappa.
