Bestselling Author David Shields Speaking as Part of SLU Writers Series
CANTON – Author and New York Times bestseller David Shields will read from his recent work as part of the St. Lawrence University’s Writers Series in April.
Shields will give his presentation on Thursday, April 4, at 8 p.m. in the Common Room of Sykes Residence Hall. The event is open to the public, free of charge.
Shields is the author of 14 books, including How Literature Saved My Life and Reality Hunger: A Manifesto, named one of the best books of the year by more than 30 publications. He has won awards for both fiction and nonfiction and his essays, stories and reviews have appeared in the New York Times Magazine, Harper’s, Esquire, Utne Reader, Los Angeles Times Book Review and more.
He is the recipient of numerous prestigious fellowships including a Guggenheim fellowship, an Ingram Merrill Foundation Award, a Ludwig Vogelstein Foundation grant, and a New York Foundation for the Arts Fellowship. Shields is the Milliman Distinguished Writer-in-Residence at the University of Washington and a member of the faculty in Warren Wilson College’s low-residency MFA Program for Writers.
