CRAIG HARRIS JAZZ ENSEMBLE TO PERFORM AT SLU

CANTON - The Craig Harris Group, a jazz ensemble that includes
spoken-word poetry and African drumming in its performances,
will present a concert at St. Lawrence University on Wednesday,
March 5, at 9 p.m. in Eben Holden. The event is open to the
public, free of charge.
Harris has been called "one of the most complete
trombonists in music today, and without question one of the
finest younger composers." A graduate of the music program
of SUNY at Old Westbury, Harris played in Sun Ra's Arkestra
for two years and later embarked on a world tour with South
African pianist/composer Abdullah Ibrahim. Influenced by
their stay in Australia, Harris played with Aborigine musicians
and returned with a dijeridoo, a haunting wind instrument
that has become a part of his musical arsenal ever since.
He has performed all over the world with his own
ensembles and has recorded numerous albums for various labels.
