Day Of Community Art To Take Place At St. Lawrence University

CANTON - A diverse group of artists and educators will come together at St. Lawrence University on Thursday, April 21, for an event called "The Artist, the Community and the Creative Process" that includes community-made art. Presented by the Arts Collaborative at St. Lawrence, it is open to the public, free of charge.

Led by award-winning visual arts educator Lorien Eck, participants include Michael Frenette, a Tupper Lake traditional furniture artisan; Paul Pedersen, a blue-collar artist whose life experiences are reflected in his art; and A'Keitha Carey, a Bahamian dance educator, performance artist, choreographer and scholar.

An afternoon of community art, and discussions about art work and the creative process within our community is planned. The schedule:

- 12:45 p.m., talk by Eck, in Noble Center Room 109, followed by a round-table discussion
- 2 p.m., Art demonstrations and a community art project, beginning in front of the Noble Center, on the University Quad; in case of rain, check the Noble Center lobby for location
- 3:50 p.m., Discussion about art work, debrief, reflect and appreciate art and artists
- 5 p.m., Afro-CaribFunk Dance Workshop, Room 107 of the Noble Center
