SLU COMMENCEMENT MAY 21

CANTON -- St. Lawrence University's Commencement ceremonies
will be held Sunday, May 21, at 10 a.m. on the Owen D. Young
Library Quadrangle, or in Appleton Arena in the event of
inclement weather.
Approximately 500 students will receive degrees at the
ceremony. Honorary degrees will be granted to Tracey McNamara,
a 1976 graduate of St. Lawrence and a veterinary pathologist at
the New York Wildlife Conservation Society, whose investigations
last fall into the high death rate of crows near Bronx Zoo led
to the discovery of a new variant of the encephalitis virus in
New York; Tantoo Cardinal, a Native Canadian actress who has
appeared in many films and television shows, including the film
Legends of the Fall; and the Alexander String Quartet, of
San Francisco, who are artists-in-residence at the University.
All honorary degree recipients are invited to give a short
presentation during the ceremony.
A North Country Citation will also be granted at
Commencement, to Ida Ainsworth Winter, of Big Moose, New York,
where she is an active community volunteer. North Country Citations
are awarded annually by the University to individuals who, through
their professional or volunteer work, improve the quality of life
in the region.
