SLU Film Series Focuses On Climate Change

CANTON - A series of films that address issues related to climate change will be shown at St. Lawrence University, as part of a semester-long project that will include the creation of a quilt to raise awareness about the topic. All of the screenings are open to the public, free of charge. Films will be shown on Tuesdays in the Winston Room of the Sullivan Student Center; all screenings begin at 7 p.m. and will be followed by informal discussions.

The schedule:
- February 23: Everything's Cool (2007) - A group of citizen-activists get training in how to talk to a generally uninterested public about the urgency of climate change.
- March 2: The 11th Hour (2007) - A look at the state of the global environment, including visionary and practical solutions for restoring the planet's ecosystems.
- March 16: The Truth About Climate Change (2008) - A two-part documentary asking the question "What is the future for our world?"
- March 23: One Degree Matters (2009) - The film follows social and business leaders as they travel to Greenland and experience the dramatic effects of the melting of the ice cap and impact it will have on society and the economy.
- March 30: The Age Of Stupid (2009) - A future archivist looks at footage from the year 2008 to understand why humankind failed to address climate change.
- April 13: No Impact Man (2009) - Follow the Manhattan-based Beavan family as they abandon their high-consumption lifestyle and try to live a year while making no net environmental impact.

The events are supported by the Hovey/Brown Endowment for the Arts.
