Discussions On Climate Change Set At St. Lawrence September 25-27


CANTON - Climate change and its effects will be explored in a variety of talks and events at St. Lawrence University from Tuesday through Thursday, September 25-27, on campus. All events are open to the public, free of charge.

On Tuesday, September 25, at 7:30 p.m. in Eben Holden, Pennsylvania State University Professor of Meteorology Michael Mann will give a talk titled "Climate Change: Is It Real?" Mann is the author of Dire Predictions: Understanding Global Warming and The Hockey Stick and the Climate Wars: Dispatches from the Front Lines, and co-founder of contributor to the award-winning website RealClimate.org.

Penn State Associate Professor of Environmental Ethics, Science, and Law Don Brown will give a talk on Wednesday, September 26, at 7:30 p.m. in Eben Holden, on "Climate Change and the Disinformation Campaign." Formerly an attorney in Pennsylvania and New Jersey, Brown represented the United States Environmental Protection Agency on delegations to the United Nations negotiating climate change, biodiversity, and sustainable development issues.

ABC News reporter Bill Blakemore will speak on the topic "Hugging the Monster of Global Warming: The Many Psychologies of Climate Change and Glimpses of Realistic Hope" on Thursday, September 27, at 7:30 p.m. in Eben Holden. Blakemore has spearheaded ABC's coverage of global warming, reporting on the impact and danger of climate change, as well as possible solutions for it. He also has helped create ABC's multiplatform exploration of global warming in TV, Internet, podcast, radio and print formats.

In addition to the talks, a variety of panel discussions, many involving St. Lawrence graduates who have careers in environmental fields, will take place throughout the three-day event.
