CIOMPI QUARTET TO PERFORM AT ST. LAWRENCE

CANTON -- The Ciompi Quartet, one of the nation's leading string 
quartets, will perform in concert at St. Lawrence University on 
Wednesday, March 28, at 8 p.m. in the Common Room of Sykes Residence 
Hall. The event is open to the public, free of charge.
	The program includes String Quartet Opus 20 #6 in A major by 
Joseph Haydn; String Quartet Opus 41 #3 in A major by Robert Schumann; 
and "The Dreams and Prayers of Isaac the Blind," for clarinet quartet, 
by Osvaldo Golijov.
	Quartet members are Eric Pritchard and Hsiao-Mei Ku, violins; 
Jonathan Bagg, viola; and Fred Raimi, cello. They will be joined for 
the clarinet quartet by Allan Ware, clarinet.
	Based at Duke University, the Ciompi Quartet is praised by 
audiences and critics worldwide. During the 2000-2001 season, they 
tour Europe, and play in New York City, Boston, Cleveland, Cincinnati, 
Toronto and Memphis. In addition, they are artists-in-residence at the 
Highlands Chamber Music Festival in North Carolina and at Monadnock 
Music in New Hampshire. The group has 10 CDs to its credit, of repertoire 
that includes many pieces commissioned and premiered by the quartet.
	The Ciompi Quartet's appearance at St. Lawrence is supported by 
the Birdsong Endowment for Music, established in 1999 to bring visiting 
musicians or musical groups to campus to enhance music education.
