ST. LAWRENCE ALUMNA RECEIVES STATEWIDE RECOGNITION

CANTON, NY - One of St. Lawrence University's most distinguished
alumnae is receiving new recognition this week in the legislative
halls in Albany.
Dr. Tracey S. McNamara, who received the Bachelor of Science
degree from St. Lawrence University in 1976, is among an "inaugural
class" of 14 graduates from some of New York's independent colleges
and universities who have been selected for the Independent Sector's
Alumni Hall of Distinction. A display of photographs and
career-descriptive profiles is to be on display March 6, 7 and 8 in
the Legislative Office Building adjacent to the State Capitol.
McNamara, who holds a degree in veterinary medicine from Cornell
University, occupies leading positions at the Bronx Zoo as chairman of
zoo and wildlife pathology, and has been prominent in identifying causes
for various infestations that have threatened both animals and humankind.
St. Lawrence University will award McNamara an honorary degree at
Commencement ceremonies in May 2000.
"This means of recognizing outstanding service, personally and
professionally, to their respective communities and to the quality of life
in our state, was established to focus attention on our stellar alumni and
their contributions to New York," said James C. Ross, president of the
Commission on Independent Colleges and Universities, which is sponsoring
the recognition and the special display. The graduates were nominated for
the distinction by their alma maters.
