SLU GRAD TO GIVE TALK ON VENEZUELA
CANTON - St. Lawrence University graduate George Ciccariello-Maher will give a talk
on campus titled "The Chavez Revolution: A View from the Front Lines" on Monday,
April 2, at 7 p.m. in Room 123 of the Griffiths Arts Center. It is open to the
public, free of charge.
After earning his St. Lawrence degree in 2001 in government and economics,
Ciccariello-Maher earned a master's degree in social sciences at Cambridge
University and in political theory at the University of California, Berkeley.
Now a Ph.D. candidate at Berkeley, Ciccariello-Maher lives in Caracas, Venezuela,
where he is a lecturer in political economy at the Venezuelan School of Planning
(Ministry of Planning and Development). He regularly contributes to the
political newsletter "Counterpunch," and his work has also appeared in Qui Parle,
Radical Philosophy Review, Journal of Black Studies and The Commoner.
While a student at St. Lawrence, Ciccariello-Maher studied in the University's
program in Spain, was elected to the economics honorary, was elected to the
academic honorary Phi Beta Kappa and was a member of the men's outdoor track team.
