CHEZUM NAMED TO JOHNSON ECONOMICS PROFESSORSHIP AT SLU
CANTON - Brian E. Chezum has been appointed to the R. Sheldon '68 and Virginia H. Johnson
Professorship in Economics at St. Lawrence University.
Chezum first became associated with St. Lawrence when he was a visiting assistant
professor of economics at the University, from 1993 to 1995 and again from 1996
to 1998. He became a full-time member of the faculty in 1998, and was named to
the Florence Irene Eggleston Chair in Economics; he has been an associate
professor of economics and chair of the economics department since 2004.
A graduate of Coe College, Chezum earned the Ph.D. at the University of Kentucky.
His current research interests involve markets with information problems, notably
the markets for thoroughbred race horses and for long-term care insurance. Chezum
has published research in a number of noted journals, including Review of
Economics and Statistics, Southern Economic Journal and Economic Inquiry.
The R. Sheldon '68 and Virginia H. Johnson Professorship in Economics was
established in 2004, with a gift from the Johnsons, of Norwalk, Connecticut.
"Shel" Johnson is a University trustee and chair of Momentum St. Lawrence, a
campaign to raise $200 million by December 31, 2010.
