SLU ECONOMICS PROFESSOR NAMED TO ENDOWED CHAIR

CANTON - St. Lawrence University Assistant Professor of Economics
Brian Chezum has been selected as the next recipient of the Flora
Irene Eggleston faculty chair. The appointment is effective July
1, 1998, for a non-renewable term of five years.
The Eggleston Chair was established through a gift from the late G.
Harry Eggleston, a member of the Class of 1910. The chair honors
his mother and is to be held by a junior faculty member, preferably
in the economics department, who has demonstrated outstanding promise
as a teacher and scholar.
A graduate of Coe College, Chezum earned his Ph.D. at the University
of Kentucky and was a visiting assistant professor at St. Lawrence
from 1993 to 1995 and from 1996 to the present. He has also held
positions at Simpson College and Marshall University. Chezum's
scholarly research has been in the fields of industrial organization,
labor economics, union behavior and self-employment. He serves the
University community as chair of Buys College, and as a member of the
Joint Board of Inquiry and the Faculty Life Committee. In addition,
Chezum is the faculty advisor to Omicron Delta Epsilon, the economics
honor society.
