TALK ON CHEMISTRY'S 'PUBLIC IMAGE' SCHEDULED AT SLU

CANTON - Attila Pavlath, past-president of the American Chemical 
Society, will give a talk entitled "The Public Image of Chemistry" 
on Thursday, September 19, at 7:30 p.m. in Room 205-206 of 
Valentine Hall at St. Lawrence University. Sponsored by the 
Northern New York Section of the American Chemical Society and 
the University's chemistry department, the event is open to the 
public.
	Pavlath is a senior research chemist with the U.S. Department 
of Agriculture, working at the Western Regional Research Center 
in Albany, California. His research focus is on the utilization 
of agricultural products as chemical resources.
	The talk will center on Pavlath's vision for the creation of 
a Center for the Public Image of Chemistry, including his view of 
the need for those in the chemistry profession to become more 
involved in championing the societal benefits of the discipline 
to the public.
