'Chemistry Art Competition' Being Held By SLU Chemistry Department
CANTON - To celebrate the International Year of Chemistry, St. Lawrence University is hosting - an art contest. The department, with the Northern New York Section of the American Chemical Society is holding a "chemistry art competition," open to all adults and children in the North Country community.
Art works in any medium and format, with contents reflecting relationships or impacts of chemistry with all aspects of the world, or art works created by chemical processes carried out by artists will be accepted for the competition.
An award ceremony and exhibition of works will be held in the Johnson Hall of Science at St. Lawrence on Saturday, December 3, at 11 a.m.
Rules of the Chemistry Art Competition:
- Art works must be received by Monday, November 28
- Each piece of art work must be accompanied by the title and a brief description about the content (or the theme) of the art work, as well as artist's name, affiliation and contact phone number.
- Art works will be categorized by art medium and age groups. They will be judged based on artistry, creativity and originality by a panel of artists and chemists.
- Winners from each category will receive prizes ($25, $20 and $15 Brewer Bookstore Certificates).
- The school art teacher who organizes and submits the most student art entries will receive a $50 certificate towards purchasing art supplies.
Art works will be accepted in person in Room 324, Johnson Hall of Science, or by mail to Peg Barkley, Chemistry Department, St. Lawrence University, 23 Romoda Drive, Canton, NY, 13617. School art teachers can contact Associate Professor of Chemistry Ning Gao (ngao@stlawu.edu or 315-229-5860) for pick-up of multiple entries by school students.
