Marriage Equality Activist To Speak At SLU, Following Award-Winning Film

CANTON - Charlene Strong, subject of the award-winning documentary film For My Wife...The Making of An
Activist for Marriage Equality
, will speak at St. Lawrence University following a screening of the film. The events are on Sunday, April 15, at 7:30 p.m. in Peterson-Kermani Performance Hall on campus and are open to the public, free of charge.

Strong was thrust into the spotlight after the death of her wife, Kate, in 2006. After facing this loss and humiliating treatment from hospital and funeral home staff, Strong decided to take a stand. Her dramatic congressional testimony is credited in passing Washington state's historic Domestic Partnership laws. As Strong finds her voice to speak out against injustice, her journey takes her across the country, finally meeting with President Barack Obama and securing his commitment to equality for all Americans.

The film tells Strong's story against the backdrop of the national debate on marriage equality.

Strong will also visit and speak with several classes during her three-day residency at St. Lawrence.
